Michigan

Michigan bans homeowners’ associations from prohibiting or requiring approval for a homeowner to replace, maintain, install, or operate an energy-saving improvement or modification, which includes EV supply equipment.

  • Associations also cannot compel a homeowner to make auxiliary changes needed for the installation of EV supply equipment.
  • However, local governments can impose requirements that may prohibit or limit the installation of an energy-saving modification. This policy does not apply to EV supply equipment installed in common areas of a homeowners’ association.
