Plug In America's Inaugural Parade

Plug In America will jump start the nation's presidential inaugural celebrations with our own "Inaugural Parade West: Plug In, America!" The event will take place on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 17 from 9:30am to 11:30am. We'll start with a press conference to send a message to Congress, Detroit, and Barack Obama: America wants plug-in vehicles, the cleanest cars in the world. Plug In America wants one million plug-in cars by 2012, 15 million by 2016. Then we'll parade through Santa Monica with an expected three dozen plug-in vehicles, including RAV4 EVs, Teslas, Vectrix bikes, PHEVs and conversions. Please contact us today if you have a highway-capable EV or plug-in hybrid electric and would like to participate.
Plug In America is also asking all our friends and supporters-with or without EVs-to attend our event. Come to celebrate our new president and to witness
the world's first plug-in parade. Come to show the auto companies and our elected leaders that               Americans want and will buy plug-in vehicles!
Check back soon for more information on the parade.

Tell Automakers to Retool for Tomorrow
A $25 billion loan was approved by Congress in September, designed to help the auto companies retool for the manufacture of fuel-efficient vehicles. The automakers are asking to use that money instead for short-term cash flow needs. In other words, at the brink of bankruptcy, the automakers are still resisting technological change and wishing for business as usual.
Congress may retain the existing fuel-efficiency provisions, or could decide to give the automakers the $25 billion with no strings attached. Congress doesn't want to risk being blamed for "letting the carmakers go under", and so may drop the fuel-efficiency requirements. They need to hear from us that we support keeping the requirements in place.
Visit our "No Bailout Without Strings" page and enter your ZIP. You will get a form that makes it easy to send an immediate message to your local representatives. Please act now.
President-elect Barak Obama is asking Americans to identify the
issues most important to them. His transition team's website asks us all to "help solve the biggest challenges facing our country." It's a quick survey with the chance for more detail.
Plug In America's new First 100 Days Campaign has one main message for the new Administration: One Million Plug-in Cars by 2012; 10 Million by 2016. The new administration is already committing to one million PHEVs by 2015.
We suggest that you use this language if you take the survey. For many more "plug-positive" actions to recommend, see Plug In America's Wish List for the New Administration.
