Plug In America partnering with National Automobile Dealers Association to train dealers nationwide

On March 11, at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Show in Las Vegas, Plug In America announced that it is partnering with NADA and the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) to educate franchised auto dealerships nationwide on electric vehicles. This will greatly improve the EV buying experience and make it easier for consumers to transition to clean EVs. This partnership is supported by the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which will engage all vehicle manufacturers to further dealership participation across the U.S.

Franchised dealerships play a valuable role in the national transition to electric transportation and this training program will educate dealers about charging options, EV infrastructure, service requirements, and other aspects of EV ownership. This online, interactive program will be designed to complement automakers’ training and offer quick, easily digestible talking points that allow sales staff to confidently encourage potential EV buyers. Upon successful completion of the course, dealership sales staff will receive Plug In America’s PlugStar Bronze certification.

“The transition to electric vehicles is now inevitable and dealers play an important role in helping consumers as they make the switch,” said Joel Levin, executive director of Plug In America. “We are excited to work with NADA and CSE to help dealers educate consumers about the many benefits of EVs, from cleaner air to convenience to the great driving experience.”

“By bringing these two EV-focused powerhouse organizations together with NADA, we will efficiently educate dealers and help accelerate the mass market adoption of electric vehicles in the U.S.,” said NADA president and CEO Mike Stanton. “The dealership training program leverages the strengths of each organization and will ensure dealers are more than prepared to sell and service the EV future.”

I sincerely hope this program takes off. It was an awful experience talking to reps at two dealerships assigned to helping us (one of whom had no experience with electric cars, nor was he interested in selling us one–kept telling us why people didn’t like EV’s. If we weren’t already advocates for renewable energy (we have rooftop solar and building an all electric in-law unit) and very committed with purchasing an electric car, we would have been turned off enough to go back to gas. Please also don’t just train them on talking points, but to truly understand the importance of this mission. P.S. I appreciate Scott above who would like to train his sales people–thank you!

How can I be a trainer for the dealers? I have extensive EV and classroom experience.

I found my initial dealership experience one where I knew much more that the dealer about EVs. My third lease was not much better than my first one, I would love to be involved in training dealers.
