Plug In America’s charging station at the organization’s new HQ in Los Angeles
Plug In America today announced it has met the Workplace Charging Challenge by installing a charging station for its employees and issued a call for other employers to follow suit.
The US Department of Energy’s EV Everywhere program is building momentum among employers to install electric vehicle charging as an added benefit for employees. The goals are lofty: the program aims to achieve a tenfold increase in the number of U.S. employers offering workplace charging by 2018.
“As the nation’s leading voice for the electric car driver, of course we wanted to meet this challenge. The great news is that this effort wasn’t difficult at all. We worked with our building management at our new office on a plan for locating the station, and a couple weeks later, employees were happily charging at work,” said Joel Levin, Plug In America’s Executive Director.
Workplace charging is an appealing employee motivator that can help attract and retain a cutting-edge workforce. 90% of Challenge partners report that their staff has expressed satisfaction with their workplace charging program. It can also be a valuable component of corporate sustainability efforts. Challenge partners save a combined 1.7 million gallons of gasoline and 17 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions each year. Employers who provide charging demonstrate progressive leadership and a willingness to adopt advanced technology. 70% of Challenge partners have received third party positive recognition for their workplace charging efforts and 60% helped another employer develop their workplace charging program.

Plug In America received a generous donation from ClipperCreek, the HCS40 station itself.
