The summer is finally here! July is the month for watermelon, BBQ’s, trips to the beach, lake or pool, vacation, contacting your Representatives… Yes, you read that last one right. Time to contact your Representatives! Congress is still in session right now, but August recess is right around the corner. And that means your elected official will be coming home to your district and making the rounds with constituents like yourself.
Now before you stop reading and click away, let me set the scene for you a bit more. As you may know by now, Plug In America is leading the way in ensuring that the $7,500 federal tax credit for electric cars remains until the market has grown to a larger percentage of the light-duty vehicle market, and is also working to bring back the expired charging infrastructure credit. We’ve been meeting with Members of Congress and hosted a ride and drive on Capitol Hill in May to educate Senators and their staff on the benefits of EVs and the EV activity in their state. We’ve covered a lot of ground so far, but we need to keep up our momentum.
In August, your Representatives will likely be holding town hall meetings, visiting local fairs, taking photo opps around town, shaking hands, that kind of thing. Our plea to you is that you speak up, take the opportunity to shake hands with your Representative, and talk about your electric car! Talk about why you love your plug-in car, what made you switch to driving electric, talk about National Drive Electric Week, and talk about the need for continued support for EVs at the federal level. You can even bring copies of the factsheets, linked above, to help make your case.
You can also schedule an in-district meeting with your Representatives – after all, they work for YOU and should be representing YOUR issues. If you don’t know already, it’s easy to figure out who your Representative is, then look for the “contact” button and find the office location closest to you. Their schedules will fill up fast, so NOW is the time to ask for a meeting to talk all things electric cars. We’re here to help too, so email us at info@pluginamerica.org if you need further assistance or advice.
The more your Representative hears about how great your EV experiences have been, the better. And, don’t forget to invite your Representative to a National Drive Electric Week event in your area.
