Plug In America applauds California Governor Brown’s carbon neutrality and clean electricity goals

Last week, California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed a bill setting a 100 percent clean electricity goal and issued an executive order to achieve total carbon neutrality by 2045. Plug In America applauds Gov. Brown for this action and affirms that transportation electrification, including electric cars, buses, trucks and more, is essential to eliminate greenhouse gases.

Transportation accounts for 41% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions. To fight this, earlier this year, Gov. Brown set a goal of five million zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) in California by 2030. Currently, there have been approximately 430,000 ZEVs sold in the state. In order to achieve carbon neutrality, the state has no choice but to power transportation through clean electricity.

“We simply cannot achieve carbon neutrality without electric vehicles,” said Joel Levin, executive director of Plug In America. “Gov. Brown’s ambitious goal is exactly what California needs to ensure our health and safety. By sourcing our electricity from renewable sources and powering our vehicles with that clean electricity, we will dramatically reduce the amount of carbon emissions we are pumping into the air we breathe.”
