BEV and PHEV cars purchased in or after 2010 are eligible for a federal income tax credit of up to $7,500. The credit varies based on the battery used to power the vehicle (kWh), and will begin to phase out to 50% of the full credit amount once a manufacturer has reached 200,000 PHEVs and BEVs sold.
