More than 180 events to highlight EVs during Drive Electric Earth Day

Consumers can test drive and experience clean electric vehicles across the U.S.

NATIONWIDE—Throughout the month of April, consumers across the country will have the opportunity to experience clean electric vehicles (EVs) at Drive Electric Earth Day events. The more than 180 in-person and online events in 39 states, plus Canada and New Zealand, will feature EV test drives, showcases, informative workshops, and other fun activities that highlight the environmental, performance, and cost-saving benefits of EVs. Details on events can be found at DriveElectricEarthDay.org.

All-electric vehicles have no tailpipe, which means no emissions from the vehicle, improving air quality and public health for our communities. Even when accounting for generating the electricity to fuel EVs, they still produce far less CO2 than gasoline vehicles, reducing the devastating effects of climate change, including wildfires, hurricanes, and more.

Drive Electric Earth Day comes at a time when an increasing number of EVs are hitting the market, with more than 70 models now available in the U.S., including SUVs and pickup trucks. The many used EVs that are now available are also making driving electric more affordable, particularly as EVs can be less expensive to fuel and maintain.

“Consumers are excited about  EVs, but they sometimes have questions about making the transition,” said Joel Levin, executive director of Plug In America. “Drive Electric Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to learn about EVs and talk to real-life EV drivers and see why the vast majority say they will never go back to a gasoline vehicle.”

“There has never been a better time to drive electric,” said Elaine Borseth, president of the Electric Vehicle Association. “Gas prices are rising, our environment is suffering from an increasing rate of emissions and there is now an ever growing selection of EVs to choose from. Our members, all volunteers, love talking to people about the experience and benefits of driving EVs. We hope to see you at an event in your community.”

“EVs can provide a cleaner and greener transportation future that helps address health, environmental, workforce and economic disparities, particularly for historically excluded and frontline communities that have been severely impacted by pollution-emitting vehicles,” said Terry Travis, co-founder of EVHybridNoire. “Drive Electric Earth Day helps to realize that vision by providing a venue for people of all backgrounds to discover the EV experience.”

“We are in a pivotal moment for clean transportation in the US, with a federal administration that is investing in the ambitious policies needed to accelerate the transition so we can finally dump fossil fuel vehicles for the health of our communities,” said Hieu Le, senior campaign representative for the Sierra Club. “Drive Electric Earth Day offers the chance for people to be together in community and learn more about EVs from people who are more than willing to spread the word about their benefits.”
