Plug In America applauds COP26 declaration calling for zero-emission vehicles by 2040
LOS ANGELES—Earlier today, more than 100 governments, automakers, fleets, and other organizations released a declaration calling for sales of all new cars and vans to be zero-emission by 2040 and no later than 2035 in leading markets. Joel Levin, chair of the Global EV Drivers’ Alliance and executive director of Plug In America, was among those that signed on.
Upon this announcement, Joel Levin released the following statement:
“On behalf of the Global EV Drivers’ Alliance, Plug In America, and electric vehicle drivers around the world, I am proud to sign on to this declaration urging that all new cars be zero-emission by 2040 and no later than 2035 in leading markets. Climate change is having a devastating impact on our planet and we must transition to electric mobility as quickly as possible. Thirty-three countries are signatories. I am proud that the states of California, New York, and Washington, as well as several U.S. cities, have also signed on, but disappointed that the U.S. government has not yet done so.
“We will continue to push for Congress to pass a Build Back Better Act that reflects President Biden’s vision for an electrified transportation system by lowering the cost of EVs and building robust EV infrastructure. You can tell Congress to act too by going to REALevchange.org.”
