Plug In America welcomes EPA waiver for California’s Advanced Clean Cars II regulations

LOS ANGELESPlug In America welcomes the decision this week by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to grant waivers to allow California to implement Advanced Clean Cars II regulations for light-duty vehicles and NOx regulations for heavy-duty highway and off-road vehicles. Because of California’s challenges with air quality, the Clean Air Act allows California to set its own, more stringent standards to regulate vehicle pollution. California has been using this authority for over 50 years to protect and improve the health of millions of Californians while growing the state and national economy.

Over 2 million electric vehicles (EVs) have been sold in California, improving air quality and health in communities. EVs save families money, keep more dollars in the local economy, improve energy security, create good-paying domestic jobs, and incentivize innovation.

We commend the Biden-Harris EPA for recognizing California’s leadership, which, through Section 177 of the Clean Air Act, extends well beyond California’s borders. EVs are here to stay, and thanks to these EPA waivers, California and states across the country will continue to accelerate toward a clean transportation future.
