April 12, 2023 – Today, the Environmental Protection Agency released vehicle emission standards for both cars and trucks that will pave the way to a cleaner transportation future. When finalized, these standards will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 10 billion tons. Based on these standards, by 2032, the EPA projects that EVs could make up 67% of new light-duty vehicle sales and 48% of new medium-duty vehicle sales.
These emission standards are part of a larger fight against climate change and are supported by the Biden-Harris Administration’s historic investments in transportation electrification through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s $7.5 billion of EV infrastructure build-out, through federal EV tax credits and investment in domestic EV and battery supply chains.
Plug In America commends the administration for these historically rigorous standards that will support a transportation sector that is cleaner, more equitable, healthier, and more secure.
