CONSUMER GROUP PRAISES CALIFORNIA’S BOLD PROPOSAL TO SHIFT TO ELECTRIC CARS
Plug In America says newly released plan’s goal to shift all sales of light-duty cars to zero emission vehicles is the right move for California’s future

Sacramento, CA (December 7, 2016) – America’s advocacy group for plug-in electric vehicles is lauding the recently released draft 2030 Target Scoping Plan by the California Air Resources Board (ARB). Plug In America is the nation’s leading non-profit organization aimed at increasing sales of plug-in electric vehicles to help reduce America’s dependence on petroleum.

Plug In America’s Executive Director, Joel Levin, notes that the discussion draft of ARB’s 2030 Target Scoping Plan sets a goal of achieving 100 percent sales of light duty zero emissions vehicles—primarily plug-in electric vehicles.

“The recommendations outlined in this draft document offer a bold vision to move California from gasoline to clean plug-in electric cars,” says Levin. “This is already being considered in Europe. Why should we fall behind on this cutting-edge technology?”

California’s proposal highlights a variety of strategies, such as long-term purchase incentives, expanded marketing and outreach, better collaboration with cities and more investments in infrastructure that could help achieve the goal of shifting all light duty vehicle sales to zero emission.

“We recognize that this is still a draft plan and there are many steps ahead in shaping how this will be implemented,” says Levin. “We’re nonetheless excited that this is on the table. California is recognizing what electric car drivers have known for years. These are better cars. They are more fun to drive, cheaper to maintain, more convenient, better for the economy, better for national security, and better for the environment.”

The 2030 Target Scoping Plan Discussion Draft is used to present ARB staff thinking on how to achieve California’s SB 32 climate goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.
