This week, the Senate defied established rules and precedent by voting against guidance from the Government Accountability Office and the Senate Parliamentarian to use the Congressional Review Act to repeal longstanding Environmental Protection Agency waivers put in place over 50 years ago, allowing California and other states to protect their air quality and people’s health through the regulation of vehicle pollution.
The California waivers protect human health, save consumers money, and drive innovation. Congress’s actions are an abuse of power that undermines advancements in health, technology, and economic growth to support oil and gas interests. These actions are a major step backward in U.S. policy and will increase pollution and related health problems in communities nationwide.
