New Mexico is at an exciting moment, and we need your help to ensure that New Mexico takes advantage of this chance. The state is poised to adopt the Advanced Clean Car II (ACC II) and Advanced Clean Truck standards by the end of this year. This isn’t just about getting more clean vehicles on our roads.

By  fully adopting ACC II through 2035, New Mexicans stand to receive up to $44 billion in benefits from public health and climate improvements, savings to drivers of zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV), and utility customer savings. But right now, the state is planning to stop short of the most beneficial target to drive EV sales through 2035.  Help us tell the state that New Mexico should adopt the full ACC II to 2035 by signing our petition.

Here’s what the petition will say:

Thank you to the New Mexico Environmental Department for the opportunity to provide our collective comments on the Advanced Clean Car II (ACC II) and Advanced Clean Truck Standards. As electric vehicle (EV) drivers, we have unique early insight and experience with EV technology. We support the clean cars standards that require automakers to sell more zero emission vehicles in New Mexico. EVs are clean, affordable, convenient and high performing.

The standards are an all-around win. Increasing the number of new EVs sold in the state helps grow the new market and the used market. This means more used clean EVs available for sale which helps to ensure New Mexicans across the state can drive electric.

EVs cost less to fuel and maintain, protect New Mexicans from volatile high gas prices (electricity prices are much more stable than gasoline prices) and lower household costs. ACC II standards will bring these cost savings to New Mexicans as soon as possible by providing more EV options for consumers including both plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles. Plus, federal tax credits further reduce the cost of EVs. Consumers stand to win from these standards by gaining access to more EV options that can benefit our communities.

We urge you to adopt the full standards through 2035 to ensure New Mexicans can receive the maximum benefits from ACC II. New Mexicans stand to receive up to $44 billion in benefits from public health and climate improvements, savings to drivers of zero-emissions vehicles (ZEV), and utility customer savings—by  fully adopting ACC II through 2035. As EV drivers we have benefitted from this technology ourselves and we support increasing access to EVs for all New Mexicans.
