Research Analyst

Job Title: Research Analyst, (Full-Time Position, 1 year term with potential to extend)

Location: Los Angeles or Sacramento, CA.

This position may require travel in California, the Northeast and other locations around the United States (up to 20%).

Primary Responsibilities:
The Research Analyst performs a variety of research and other services to support the PlugStar Program Team in the planning, implementing and evaluating of dealer and consumer engagement projects. These initiatives address critical market barriers to EV adoption by exposing consumers to EV technologies and the EV lifestyle. This is achieved through a mix of direct and online engagement to inform customers, direct them to qualified auto dealers and retailers, and provide after-sale support. Primary responsibilities include research design, data collection, analysis and reporting. The primary focus of these efforts is to evaluate program and project outcomes and to share findings with stakeholders and the public. The incumbent also supports the Program Team in a variety of functions, as needed. The candidate must be comfortable with technical projects requiring coordination across multiple organizations and functions.

The Research Analyst reports to Plug In America’s Program Director and contributes to implementation of Plug In America’s expanding consumer and retail engagement initiatives in the following capacities:

  • Research and Statistical Methods:
    • Perform literature review to frame research efforts and inform project approach and policy
    • Provide research/data design, analysis, and evaluation for Program Team projects independently and in consultation with the Program Team
    • Identify appropriate research methodologies and data collection instruments
    • Administer surveys, focus groups and/or interviews
    • Assemble, analyze and interpret data from various sources and in collaboration with external research partners
    • Coordinate efforts of external research partners to ensure that proper data protocols are followed
    • Perform statistical analysis, including multivariable linear regressions, GIS, time series modeling and forecasting techniques
    • Review and assess analyses conducted by others for quality
  • Data Visualization, Performance Measuring and Reporting:
    • Develop intuitive data visualization, maps, and reporting tools
    • Assist in identifying key project performance metrics
    • Develop written reports, presentations, briefings, papers and/or records
    • Facilitate reporting from CRM and other Plug In America databases
    • Present at conferences, produce research reports and briefs and write blogs
  • Program Support:
    • Develop analytical tools and processes for program assessment, tracking, measurement, and evaluation
    • Advise Program Team on expected research needs, opportunities, and strategy
    • Participate in or represent program staff at working groups, meetings, or reporting calls
    • Communicate regularly with leadership to provide updates, report concerns, and suggest solutions for improvements
    • Maintain effective working relationships with the Program Team as well as external clients and stakeholders
    • Contribute to proposal development
    • Support the Program Team in a variety of functions, as needed

Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required:

  • Graduate level degree(s) in behavioral science, economics, business/marketing, statistics or subject relevant to sustainable transportation and/or renewable energy; coursework should include quantitative and analytical methods
  • Demonstrated fluency in using office productivity and project management software to create well-formatted and polished documents and other materials
  • Proficiency in at least a few of the following:
    • Data visualization software (i.e., Tableau)
    • Statistical analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R)
    • GIS mapping software (e.g. QGIS, ESRI ArcMap 9+)
    • Python
    • JavaScript
    • Quantitative research design and methods
    • Program evaluation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Collaborative team player
  • Extremely detail-oriented, exceptional problem-solving and time management skills, and the ability to meet required deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Ability to independently handle multiple tasks, changing priorities, stressful situations and complex assignments
  • Passion for electric cars, sustainable transportation and/or renewable energy technologies
  • 2 or more years of experience related to the primary job duties and required qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in marketing or market research, especially in the automotive and/or renewable energy or energy efficiency sectors
  • Experience working with public agencies
  • Six months experience driving a plug-in vehicle on a regular basis. (In any case, the Analyst will be expected to be regularly driving a plug-in vehicle no later than 12 months after hiring.)

Salary and benefits: Salary is commensurate with experience and skills. Plug In America offers a benefits package including partial health insurance coverage, a retirement plan, and a monthly vehicle benefit towards lease or purchase of a plug-in vehicle.
