The 2017 Kia Optima PHEV is a plug-in hybrid featuring an electric range of 29 miles, and a total range of 610 miles. The Optima PHEV comes equipped with a 9.8kWh battery pack that can be recharged at 3.7kW (Level 2) in less than three hours. With 202 combined horsepower and 276 ft-lb of combined torque, the Optima PHEV accelerates from zero to sixty in 8.5 seconds. With a drive setting similar to the Chevy Volt, Optima PHEV drivers can selected “Hybrid Mode” when the battery is charge. This retains the battery’s current state of charge and allows the driver to utilize the gas generator. This is especially helpful on roadtrips, when the use of the hybrid system on the highway can retain the all-electric range of the battery for low-speed city driving. Additionally, the Optima PHEV features a “Charging Mode” that recharges the battery during high-speed highway driving. The Optima PHEV has a drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd, and ties with the Tesla Model S as the most aerodynamic car in its class. Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning System, and Front Collision Warning System come standard on the Optima PHEV. The Optima PHEV also features a navigation system with the ability to locate and direct drivers to the nearest EV charger. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both supported. The Optima PHEV comes standard with a Level 1 Cordset Charger.
