Act right now to lift the cap on the EV tax credit and bring back the credit for EV charging stations and 2-3 wheeled electric motorcycles!

Update:

Plug In America Friends,

Congress voted February 9 on a budget deal that included a number of tax credit extensions that had previously expired. For EV Drivers, we had two small victories!

First, the 30% tax credit for charging stations was extended until Dec. 31, 2017. While clearly this date has already passed, anyone who purchased a charging station in 2017 can claim a 30% tax credit for the purchase.

Likewise, the 10% tax credit for 2 and 3 wheeled electric motorcycles was extended until December 31, 2017. Again, while this date has already passed, anyone who purchased an electric motorcycle last year can claim the credit, capped at $2,500. See a summary of the extenders package here.

We fought hard for an extension until the end of 2018 for these two credits, but the majority of all the credits included were only a one year retroactive extension. We will continue to look for opportunities to win a longer extension.

We also fought to have the cap lifted on the $7,500 tax credit for EV purchases, and while there was some support, the extenders package was kept to a limited number of already expired credits. As Congress moves forward with a transportation infrastructure package, we will continue to fight on lifting the cap on the EV tax credit so that the credit works for more drivers over a longer time frame.

Stay tuned: We will call upon you to step up and help us lead this charge again, soon.

Urgent!

Calling all EV drivers and supporters!

We need you to contact your Senators and Representatives right now! As a part of the legislative action to keep the government running, the House and the Senate will be voting today on whether to also include a package with tax credits for EVs. This package, S.2256, the Tax Extender Act of 2017, includes a two year extension of the 30% tax credit for EV charging infrastructure for homes and businesses and the 10% tax credit for 2-3 wheeled electric motorcycles. Both credits are retroactive to include purchases made since Dec. 31, 2016.

We want Congress to support these two tax credits, but they could do more. We also need them to lift the cap on the $7,500 EV tax credit. That isn’t yet in the bill—but could be added in with your support.

The moment is now – support S.2256.
