The Policy team at Plug In America works to drive the transition to clean transportation through creative policy solutions, innovative research, and strategic partnerships.
Position Overview
Plug In America seeks a highly motivated Policy Research Associate to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with solid research skills, and a demonstrated passion for sustainability and the transition to clean transportation. This role will involve researching, analyzing policy impacts, and providing actionable insights to support the organization’s strategic objectives and advocacy efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct Research and Analysis
- Perform research on EV-related policies, regulations, and market trends to stay ahead of upcoming strategies and technologies.
- Analyze the impact of existing and proposed policies on the electric vehicle industry, including economic, environmental, and social implications.
- Gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data related to EV policies and market conditions.
Policy Development and Recommendations
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify policy needs and opportunities.
- Draft clear and compelling reports, presentations, and blogs to communicate policy insights and findings.
- Prepare and present research findings to senior management, board members, and external partners.
- Support the creation of policy proposals and advocacy strategies to promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with government agencies, coalition partners, and other stakeholders to gather input and build relationships. May co-lead external coalition working groups.
- Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and workshops to discuss policy issues and research findings.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Economics, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or a related field.
Experience: Ideally, the candidate will have 2+ years of experience in policy research, analysis, or a related role, focusing on the transportation or energy sector. We will consider recent college graduates who meet other criteria for the position.
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strong analytical and research skills, proficient in data analysis tools and methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Other: Experience driving an EV is a plus.
Annual Salary
$55,000-$65,000 depending on experience.

Interview Process
The process will begin with a screening of qualified applicants. Selected applicants will be asked to complete a brief writing exercise lasting no more than an hour. This will be followed by an interview with the senior policy director and, after that, a panel interview.
