Point Reyes National Park's Electric Cars

The park rangers at Point Reyes National Seashore love their RAV4 EVs. How come the park still has electric cars when so many were destroyed? In 2004 Toyota agreed to our demand (we were DontCrush.com back then) to stop destroying its RAV4 EV electric cars. As a result, Toyota chose to place some of these newly reprieved EVs with groups and institutions dedicated to preserving the environment.

In 2005, the Point Reyes rangers received five RAV4 EVs on a two-year lease. The Park Service agreed to pay for any needed service or repairs. In 2007 Toyota granted a one-year extension. There was some uncertainty about Toyota's intentions recently as the rangers thought the RAV4 EVs were going to have to be returned this spring. Now Toyota says these electric cars can stay with the Park Service on ever-renewable two year leases. Good news for Point Reyes, as the park rangers have become "EV fanatics," as one of them says it. Because these RAVs are powered by the solar electric arrays on park buildings, they provide true zero-emission, zero-carbon, zero-petroleum transportation, helping meet the Park's environmental goals. The Rangers at Point Reyes are sold on electric cars and would like more. As Toyota itself asks in its ads, "Why not?"
