  • 1888: Electric Vehicles (EVs) made their U.S. debut. 1

  • 1899: An EV achieved the jaw-dropping speed of 65.79 miles per hour. At the time, gas cars were not capable of such horsepower, although it's true that most electric cars traveled in a much more leisurely fashion. 2

  • Turn of the 20th Century: Ninety percent of New York City cabs were electric. The silent, nearly maintenance-free operation of early EV, as well as the lack of smelly combustion exhaust, was greatly appreciated. 3

  • Present Day: As 21st Century pollution, global warming and battery innovation continue to increase, EVs are slated to make a comeback. Observers don't have to look too far into the future to see that EVs are currently parked on the cutting edge of technology and poised to enter the race to a cleaner, quieter, less toxic world. 4
